My first gig on the Sunset Strip was at Ben Pollack’s jazz club at 8250 Sunset Blvd – which is now unfortunately The Body Shop. Played drums with Bob Crosby and the Bobcats. Wasn’t legal – I was 16. First experience seeing barflies passed out on the bar while we played. Driving home to La Canada after the gig and there were no 134 or 2 freeways back then. Had to cut through Hollywood, Los Felix, up through Glendale to La Canada. At 2:30am. After drinks. I had strict parents, so I have no idea how I pulled this off.
